FAQs about hotels in Inverness

Gateway to the Highlands and Loch Ness

A jewel with historic buildings and charming streets, Inverness is surrounded by a typical Scottish Highland landscape. It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

Take a walk around the Old Town, visit St Andrew’s Cathedral, and make a stopover in the charming Victorian Market. The Old High St Stephen's Church is the oldest building in town, and has been a religious site since pre-Christian times.

The Inverness Castle overlooks the river and is nowadays the seat of the Sheriff Court. A hotel in Inverness city centre is ideal to enjoy the different cultural and recreational activities in town.

Watch the Atlantic salmon jumping out the river near the Ness Islands, and try to catch a glimpse of the famous monster of Loch Ness. The Cairngorms National Park is 40 km away, and Chanonry Point is the best spot to watch dolphins, just 24 km away.

Inverness hotels include a large offer of small, cosy guest houses, B&B’s, and rural cottages, allowing a closer contact with the nature. Don’t miss the Inverness accommodation deals on Booking.com!

The town centre was reasonably accessible for dropped kerbs and pedestrian areas. Lots of places to eat with different cuisines. It is definitely the best place to be based for exploring the highlands with access to all points of the compass with road, rail and air connections.

As a city girl (Glasgow) this was truly a breath of fresh air. I almost cried leaving because I had fallen in love with this small city. Everywhere you look there is little intricacies in the city, like gold leaf details on the pavements, walls and benches with installed artwork explaining the history of the place, hills and mountains everywhere you look. Ive been up again since, I love it so much. Its my genuine plan to move now to Inverness I love it that much.

We originally booked outside of town at the old north hotel...

We originally booked outside of town at the old north hotel inn. We had a horrible experience with our checkin person who also was tending bar, she made us feel so uncomfortable and unwelcomed we left early the next morning and thankfully we booked the best western Inverness hotel which exceeded our expectations and was not much more than the Inn. Blessing in disguise, if we had a slightly better check-in experience at the original booking, we would’ve missed out on this fabulous hotel that overlooked Inverness castle and Loch Ness river. We love Inverness because of our experience at our second location. Thank goodness we left our original place of stay.

Inverness is a very friendly, safe city to visit.

Inverness is a very friendly, safe city to visit. The centre is quite compact so getting around it is easy on foot. Plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants to choose from. Lovely walks from the hotel along the river. The Gellions is great for live music just across the river although there are plenty of bars with live music - Hootananny, Maccallums, Gunsmiths and the Highlander all within the centre. Coyotes and Revolution are great for food and the Rendezvous and Girvans are great cafes.

A small but very charming city.

A small but very charming city. After 3 days, we already knew the streets of the city center, could walk around, and reach our favorite café or restaurant without a map. Cute shops, and good restaurants. We didn't enter the cathedral because there was a £2 entrance fee, and we didn't have cash on hand. We also booked a 1-day tour and visited Clava Cairns, Culloden Battlefield, and Glen Affric - following in the footsteps of some of the locations that inspired the creators of the Outlander series. I highly recommend such a tour; it was a beautiful day, and we discovered places we wouldn't have been able to visit otherwise without such a tour or renting a car. Three days in Inverness (especially in winter) are more than enough. Have fun!

My family and I had a very cosy room with all amenities that you can think of. Russell, the owner gave us a lot of useful insider information about Inverness and Scotland in general. In the morning he provided us a fabulous breakfast according to our wishes. Our room had a private bath and everything was absolutely clean. The beds were very comfortable so that we wanted to stay longer in this cosy home. When we come back to Inverness we will definitely stay there again. Thank you so much Ellen and Russell!!!!!

It’s hard to find adequate words to describe how much my husband and I loved staying at Ness Lodge. The hosts are absolutely fantastic! Zoe made a dinner reservation for us at the Drumossie Hotel and it was our favorite meal experience in Scotland. I recommend taking their food recommendations to heart because they know their stuff! The home was so cozy, modern, and beautiful that we never wanted to leave! Ness Lodge is a must-stay if you’re in Inverness. You won’t find a better place!

    - I booked very last minute - and I am so glad that I did, this was the perfect finish to my Scotland trip - Firstly, the flat is very spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated with thoughtful small touches like a cup of tea to greet you on arrival - Above all, Karen is a wonderful host - if you can, you should book one of her dinners for a truly unique Scottish culinary experience! - Recommend 10/10 - look no further if you are planning to stay in Inverness :)

this place was perfect. it was a 5 minute drive (if that) into Inverness. everything about the place was fantastic. it was clean, spacious, cute, and nice. it was the best place we stayed in our two week trip to Scotland. I would recommend everyone to stay here. unfortunately we weren’t able to use the hot tub but that would have been an extra bonus. they provided croissants, bread, jam, milk, and butter for breakfast. the hosts were kind and friendly.

Very convenient for Inverness and destinations on the A9, like Aviemore. Well-appointed kitchen, good fridge, microwave, washing machine. Excellent shower, separate bedroom very comfortable. Excellent blackout curtains, important in Scotland in June! Easy parking. Good wifi. Bread, milk etc kindly provided. So nice to be able to step out onto the little patio and see the hills, and I even like the fact that you can see the A9.

Super cool to stay in the rooms over a pub. It was just like travel in the 1800s in Scotland where travelers stayed at pubs. We got the key from the bartender and ate at one of the long tables where we struck up a conversation with another group of travelers. The location was great for Inverness and the room was perfect for family of 3 (double below and bunk above).
